UPDATE: The map is now available for download here: http://www.sandlotminecraft.com/pages/maps/ Once again, all good things must come to an end. The Hardcore survival server will be closed on December 3rd. It may be reopened on that date, but most likely it will not be ready by then and will have a grand re-opening at a later date to be determined. Why are you closing Hardcore? Hardcore has seen a lot of ups and downs and a couple different iterations of gameplay during its time on The Sandlot. Originally, it was almost purely vanilla hardcore, with no claims, no chest protections, and when you died, you were locked out until the server was reset. We felt this was harsh to players who had a bad first spawn at night or made a mistake that kept them out of the server for a month or more, so we changed it to a 1 hour cooldown after death. Even this was a bit too prohibitive, and eventually it got to the point we are at now, where nobody is playing Hardcore except a couple very dedicated souls that are trying to keep the server alive. We are going to try something different again to see if it sticks. It's a journey, and you can help shape Hardcore's future by sharing your thoughts here: http://www.sandlotminecraft.com/threads/lets-talk-about-a-map-reset-and-gameplay-changes.28895/ Lastly, we want all the fun new 1.10 stuff, right?! What will happen to my builds? My inventory? All my precious items? Inventories and enderchests will be reset. Homes and claims will be reset. Everything will be reset. Will the server be Minecraft 1.10? Yes. There will be fossils and husks and all the other new things from Minecraft 1.10 that you would expect. What is going to happen to the current Hardcore server? You can keep playing on the current server until we launch the new one. Finish up those projects! Will the map be available for download when the server is taken offline? Yes. Are there going to be any gameplay changes? Yes, the current list of proposed changes can be found and discussed (your input matters!) here: http://www.sandlotminecraft.com/threads/lets-talk-about-a-map-reset-and-gameplay-changes.28895/ Will there be a resource world? No. This iteration of Hardcore is going back to a more frequent reset schedule and will be focusing more on adventuring together and reliving that amazing "Create New World" experience we all love in Minecraft. I have a question you didn't answer! Ask away!
There will be one on the 3rd, just before the closing. I am planning on streaming the event and having an entorouge follow me around like we did for SVS. I will most likely also disable the cooldown on death, add /tpa, and turn keepInventory on just for the event. I have a separate post asking for must-see sights here: http://www.sandlotminecraft.com/threads/must-see-sights-and-locations.29917/
Well we all knew this time would come some day. And I'm sure the new one will be just as fun as it was when this map started! A fresh start is always nice
I know that many people think Hardcore is too tough, no one ever plays it, etc....But I have some of my first memories on the Sandlot there, when I went on Trub's expedition for the Jungle Death City.... It's a fine server, and I'm sad to see it go. Though, all good things must come to an end.
Goodbye, Hardcore. I shall miss you forever, and I shall never forget the moment when I jumped off a tree and smashed into the ground. and saw my head right under the tree, I freaked out I'll miss Hardcore, but am looking forward to the new one.
Awesome, I'm so glad that you're thinking of doing this. I completely understand and I am looking forward to seeing the completed product.
