This same glitch just happened to my brother and I. He purchased a Large shop yesterday and placed a chest today, but cannot open it. He added me as a friend to the shop and neither of us can open it or break it.
Any moderator can fix this for you in game by typing /cremove and punching the chests. As an aside, it would be great if you guys could get in the habit of doing this anytime you rent a shop (if you plan not to keep it forever) and place down chests. It's not required, but it would prevent this type of thing from happening to others.
