Hiya! I received permission to ask this, but link sharing cannot be done. I've downloaded Blender, but the program will not open. I've solved various issues with it already, but now I'm at the point where I double-click the app, it brings up the CMD, then disappears and nothing is opened. I am on a Windows 10 laptop, and have 64-bit operating system. If anyone has any suggestions, please comment! Thanks in advance!
I'm not familiar with Blender, but here's 2 things to check for more info. The first is called the Reliability Monitor. Open your Start menu and type "reliability" and you should see an entry that says "View reliability history." Click that and it should show a graph with details about any programs that have crashed or had updates. Under the graph there's a section with further details. Try looking in there for any possible reasons why Blender is crashing. Windows keeps a log of all events that occur. It's called the Event Viewer. Crazy right?! So open your Start menu, type "event" and it should pop up. On the left, there should be a tree view with folders and entries. Open the Windows Logs section, then click on Application. It should show a red X on any application crashes. Click on the entry for more info. Hope this helps!
I would suggest reinstalling the program. I haven't told anyone but I actually have been using Blender for the past 2 years (And I love it ). I'll have to show some things I've been doing with it soon. Two things I would recommend: 1. Make sure you are on the latest version. The file downloaded should've been a .msi file. Rerun this application in repair mode and it should fix the problems you are having. 2. Because Blender is an open source software, the program can essentially be ran from any location on your computer. Make sure the application is trying to open from the correct location, most likely your Program Files folder. If after trying to reinstall with the 64-bit application you still don't get anything, try the 32-bit version and see if you can't get anything from that point. I also don't know the specs of the computer, but I don't know if I need those to solve this issue.
I've installed and re-installed the latest version of Blender, but to no avail. I've done the repair mode, does nothing. I uninstalled the latest version, and installed (and re-installed) an older version - same issue. Any more ideas? --- When I went to the Event Viewer, an application called Garage.Container.exe seems to be causing issues. (I have an HP laptop) My laptop has had various problems for months now - we are probably going to take it in and have it worked on. EDIT: GP, what type of computer and operating system do you use for Blender?
I stick to Windows 10 primarily, though I have also got it to work on a 15 year old Linux desktop system as well. My Laptop has a 4 core i7 processor with a 960M Nvidia graphics card. Model is a HP Pavilion Gaming computer. I also have a desktop computer running Windows 10 Pro that runs Blender perfectly fine. I actually repaired it for a rather cheap price. It has a 4 core Xeon Processor and some kind of FX Quadro graphics card. Don't remember the number. After some brief research, the Garage.Container.exe application is an HP thing. You would be safe to remove that, as its also known as that HP Welcome. Not really necessary. It's possible that an openGL file got corrupt somewhere to. I know there was one time I had to go search for a file that normally isn't included. It's rather hard to explain, but if you know the term "opengl", then I would try getting this file. This file should reboot Blender's openGL settings and allow the program to open. I'd post a link to the download but I don't think that would be allowed here. If needed I can send a pm with that download link. If uninstalls and reinstalls don't work, getting this file is the next step. When I encountered a similar problem of the program basically running at 0.5 fps in every part of the program, downloading and running this file on start up of Blender seemed to fix the problem. Just let me know if I can place a link to the file you need.
We got a professional's help with other problems on my laptop, and when I asked about Blender, he was able to open it. Now I need to figure out how to import a file, re-size it, and export it as a different file... Thanks for the helpful comments!
Well... Blender will not open again. Maybe only professionals have the magic touch that I don't have. I'll have to figure that out later...
The need for Blender is no longer an issue - found something else. My plan worked! Ha za! However... if you do have ideas about why Blender isn't working for me, feel free to comment whenever.
