Chat Updates

Hi everyone!

I am learning more and more about our chat system every day, and I feel like we have a nearly perfect system now. It still has a couple hiccups that I believe I can resolve, but for the most part, our new chat system is now on par with our old one, and has some very nice improvements and features that were not possible with the old system.

Consistent Player Designations/Tab List Changes

The in game chat and the tab list now show the same formatting for helper, elder, and VIP stars. I have moved helper stars to the prefix (left) of names to make it easier to find them on the tab list, and VIP and elder stars are now in the suffix (right).

The tab list has been updated to show the server you are currently playing on directly after the "Moderators" section, and also showing many more players than before where it would truncate the list at about 10 players. I have also updated the tab list in all HungerGames servers to show the individual player counts in each HG server in case you want to get into a game that has 3 players and is waiting on a fourth.

HungerGames Spectators

The spectator feature has been re-enabled in all HG servers and the chat system for HungerGames has been completely overhauled. Each HG game now has two separate chat channels, one for alive players, and one for spectators/dead players. Dead players will be able to hear alive players, but will not be able to speak with them or use any /pm, /msg, /r commands while spectating. This is done to prevent cheating. If you find an exploit in this new system where you are able to send messages with a player who is still alive and in the game, please let me know immediately.

Helper Chat

There is now a direct line of communication from players who require assistance to helpers and moderators. If you see a player who is in need of assistance, and you don't know how to help them, this would be a good way to get help. I want to make it very clear that this channel is not a new way for you to spam moderators and helpers, and any abuse of the channel will forfeit your use of the channel. Just keep being your awesome selves and we won't have a problem.

To use the helper chat from anywhere on The Sandlot, type /helpme <your question here>. For example, if you don't know how to claim land, you could type /helpme Please help me with a claim in Easy. You will not see your message go through, but I assure you that any helpers and moderators online WILL see the message. We might not be able to respond right away, so please have patience and do not repeat the message.

The Helper Chat is only meant to be visible to helpers and moderators, so if you find yourself in a situation where you cannot chat normally and you are seeing messages in the helper chat, just say so and we will help you rectify the problem.

Hover Tooltips

If you haven't been paying attention to the hover tooltips, you really should! They display things like your rank on SVS, your current balance in SVS and Easy, and more! As @cheracc said, the tooltips are on a trial run at the moment, but I am confident that we will be able to make them both awesome and useful to the community. See if you can find any neat easter eggs on any of the servers (some players already have ).

Changing Servers

If you change servers and you are still finding yourself hearing chat from the previous server you were on, just type /leave <server name>. The /leave command will work with the following chat channels/servers: arena, creative, easy, hardcore, lobby, parkour, svs, and skyblock.

Do keep in mind that you must be connected to at least one channel, so if you accidentally leave a channel you didn't mean to, you will be automatically reconnected to the channel of the server you are currently in.

I would like to thank everyone for their patience and reports on all the issues we were/are having with the new chat system. Overall I am very pleased with it now, and I hope you are too. As always, let me know if you have any questions.

A few things to note:

@TigerLily084 and I were testing the Helper chat. I can see my own messages that I send in the Helper channel, and I can also see other people's messages that are sent there, too.
Going to the Lobby does not fix this.
Using /leave helper will only work until you activate the channel by using /helper [message] again.
Relogging does not fix it either.

Edit: From the tests, it seems it's this way for everyone. Not just me.

Using /join helper will also make my messages directly go to the helper channel, without the use of /helper before the message.

 

Thanks for all your hard work in getting this new chat system working. I love how you can see the different important information on each player depending on what survival world server you're on. Not sure I like seeing how much time Minecraft has "vacuumed" out of my life on each server. lol Just kidding. That's great too.

 

I am seeing a lot of VIP stars on both sides of the name in tab. 10 at a quick glance just now are in both the prefix and suffix location.
