How Young is Too Young?

My son is 5, going on 6, and while he REALLY wants to join a server I'm afraid that he may be too young. He can't read yet. He's learning not to break other people's things, but sometimes he gets too excited about explosions.

Are there guidelines about what a child should be able to do before they join? Should I only let him on when I can play as well?

Of course I'll go through all the guidelines and rules with him, and will be in the same room most of the time, anyways. But I want his first online experience to be good.

 

He can't grief most is claimed but not all tnt is disabled i believe on survival unless you enable it on your plot that is all yours unless you share. (which will probably be above his game knowledge) The creative server has plots which you have to set up but all land is claimed so he can't do damage to other's things survival he will need to not break unclaimed stuff.

Who dosen't like tnt?!

I've been told that even 3 year olds can join to play by LifeLearner.
Make sure your son understands all the rules (http://www.sandlotminecraft.com/index.php?pages/rules/) and knows to come to you if he needs help or doesn't understand something in-game. You could help him make a forum post here requesting assistance and players will answer those questions as well.

I love explosions as well - they make up about 50% of Minecraft's fun!
If you trust he can behave and do well, I believe it is a good idea to let him play on his own some.
If he doesn't, however, know how to type in chat or read, sometimes it can be a bit difficult to talk.

If you get on every once in a while or so to help him, that would probably help him out.
Sometimes players may accidentally break or do something they aren't supposed to and players try assisting them, but they don't always understand because they're young.

If you want to type, you press "T" and type in a message and click "Enter" when you are in-game Minecraft.
If you need help, don't be afraid to ask or make a forum post requesting help.

Thank you so much. He really does. We're having a serious discussion right now about how he is NOT allowed to explode people's things no matter how many of the rules they break. I don't think he even could, but since almost every conversation we have involves TNT these days, I figure I better make this very, very, clear.

 

Biz tnt is disabled on svs non claimed land right?

 

It is disabled, but TNT will still hurt people and mobs. I think there is also a thing where it doesn't allow you to place TNT or lava within a certain amount of blocks of a player.
