Cheracc, c0wg0d, and I are talking about this topic now. We might wait to firm up the location until we get on-site and see the options near the convention center. We will likely use this forum thread to announce the day, time, and location for the meet-up. So, stay tuned here for future announcements!
We will try to get group photos with those who are willing. (Some might choose to not have their photos taken, and that is fine.)
I have been looking at MineCon info and here are a couple ideas after cheraccs panel a lobby (there is different lobbies) A hotel on site A minecon resteraunt I reccomend going to a minecraft computer area at a set time and via sandlot pm exchange locations in the room to get a meetup while people on sandlot say hi.... maybe someone could even livestream it... so many places
Thanks for taking this on. Maybe the parents who are going could start a PM conversation (or exchange cell #s) to make it easier to plan in real time on site. I'll be there with @theselittlepigs and @rrainbowprincess and we're sticking around on Monday for some rollercoastering (probably at KBF but still undetermined). Can't wait!
Just got this from Eventbrite: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 6:30AM – 7:00AM - Registration open 6:30AM – Queuing Starts for Opening Ceremonies 10:30AM – 11:30AM – Opening Ceremonies 11:30AM – 7:00PM – Exhibit Hall Open 12:00PM – 5:30PM – Minecraft Tournament Open 12:00PM – 7:00PM – Panel Sessions 7:00PM – Queuing starts for Saturday Night Show 8:00PM – 9:30PM – Saturday Night Show Um, could anyone who has attended Minecon before help me understand this "queuing" thing? Like, is it impossible to get into the opening ceremony without getting in line at 6:30 in the morning? Is the opening ceremony not held in a big enough space and is it important to attend? Because 4 hours in line WUT now????
My impression was that those who want to sit in the front will enter early, since seats are first come, first served. Registration will open at 6:30 on Saturday morning. Presumably, people can enter the venue at that time, and so some will go secure seats in the main stage area. They might trade off with family or friends to hold their seats for the next 4 hours. Registration is open all day Friday, so if you arrive early, you can register early and ask about the opening ceremony. Maybe the main stage is not large enough to hold all 22,000 attendees? I am not personally too worried about getting good seats. The boys would not be interested to wait in the auditorium for 4 hours. From videos of other Minecon events, it appears they use screens to project the stage for people in the back. In fact, if they had an overflow viewing area, like some college graduations, that would be fine with me too.
Thanks @LifeLearner! I'm just not going to worry about it too much and get there Saturday as early as we can (but definitely not THAT early).
I believe you are in your dream place c0w... picture a golden wheat-field untouched by society. And then plan to buy the $10 drinks and other overpriced food at the event!
From our discussion so far, it looks like we will be arranging a meetup on Sunday morning. The location we will post here at some point on Saturday (or possibly late Friday night). It might not be reasonable to meet at the convention center, as there will certainly be ridiculous crowds everywhere, so if there is a site nearby (like a lobby area of a nearby hotel, or maybe a highly visible outdoor area) we may use that. We will make sure that we give a good amount of notice. I will be around and wearing my Sandlot t-shirt, so if you happen to see me (or come to my panel on Saturday from 6:00 - 7:00 pm!), please feel free to come say hi! I'd love to get a bunch of selfies with Sandlot players! That's really the main reason I wanted to go to Minecon to begin with! IF they allow backpacks, I'm going to be carrying a bag with me with several t-shirts that I'll hand out to anyone that recognizes me and/or my shirt. If they don't allow them, I'll just bring them to the meetup. I'm really getting super excited! My adventure starts Friday morning with my long flight out to California from Pennsylvania.
I believe from the email I got that registration on Friday was only from 7-9 PM. And 22,000? Did I miss something? I thought they sold 6,000 tickets??
It is essentially all day long on Friday. Unless your flight arrives really late, you could probably register when you arrive. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 7:00AM – 9:00PM Registration Open MINECON 2016 TICKETS ANNOUNCEMENT! "It’s going to be the biggest MINECON yet, with 12,000 attendees!" I added an extra 10,000 attendees (sorry, sloppy typing). They sold 2 batches of 6,000 tickets. The opening and closing ceremonies will be in Hall D (which Minecon is calling the Main Stage). According to the Anaheim Convention Center website, Hall D will support 15,000 seats in a theater-style arrangement. So, those who want to sleep late (teenagers in my household) should still be able to get seats somewhere.
I wish they had one in Boston. I've seen the pattern so far, and it's usually odd years in Europe, even years in the USA. So maybe 2018, 2020, 2022, and so on. Small chance for 2017, 2019, 2021, and so on.
They've already done two in europe but only one on the east coast. I think it will be there next year just from a geographic point of view. And the one on the east was the south east. So chances are high
Well it might not be in Boston, but I am betting on the east coast Do you have an accent if you live near or in Boston?
