Oct. 13 2019/2:17 ET: unusual (not block) lag in skyblock, lost inventory (reverted to prior state)

    skyblock is currently very laggy. completing challenges (spamming maestro) this afternoon, and it is failing in a way that makes me think there might be some lost data:

    1. Initially intermittent, but then consistent "locked challenge" messages coming back from maestro.
    2. After disconnecting and reconnecting, it was as if I had gone back in time perhaps 10-15 minutes -- appeared at a different part of my island (where I had been recently), and inventory was as it was when I was doing seedsower challenge (note inventory in bar below). But, container contents were in the state they should have been when I logged off (e.g: the items I had just put in furnace were smelting), the chest I put my items in to make room for seedsower was empty (note concern for lost items from inventory).
    3. Ladybug reported no lag at the same time while on creative server.
    4. overall, updates from server are slow -- as I type this, server is not responding to commands like /c, etc; minecarts are not moving.
    5. I am the only one on skyblock at the moment, and for the past hour+
    6. No extraordinarily complex redstone circuits or anything -- fewer things running than normal, in fact.
    7. Note challenge menu below... (these should not be locked).
    8. Recap:
    maybe lost data in user inventory
    maybe lost data in challenge db (for my user)
    doesn't appear to be lost data in containers
    9. server is completely unresponsive at this moment (got worse while I was typing this).
    10. disconnect/reconnect, now cannot connect to server.

    Update... Looks like it may have extended to other servers now, as well. Ladybug last disconnected from creative, and is not able to connect now. Before disconnecting from creative, she found that attempts to do /lobby were unresponsive.

    I'm very sorry. There was likely some data loss, as you noticed. I am unable to recover this loss. The hard disk on the server was completely full. I had to purge some old backups to clear some space.

    It's all good. Thank you for the information, and for the Sandlot in general! Changes always come with growing pains. I will say that this was the first hint of any sort of performance issues I've seen since the move to the new server.

    Ok, so I got in and took a look, and my Inventory and challenge screen looks exactly like the screenshot I included above.

    That means
    1. It's almost the same as if I had jumped off the island -- empty inventory, except I still have the xp and armor I was wearing.
    2. Challenges are in a weird sort of state between reset and where they should be.

    1. makes me sad, because if it had happened 10 minutes on either side of that, my "usual" items would still be in my inventory, instead of being temporarily shifted to make room for seeds. IF there is any sort of CONVENIENT way to get my inventory back, like from the previous night's backup, that would be awesome. But, no big deal if not -- I can replace those things.

    2. I think I'll definitely need some help with. Other than just repeating all the challenges (if that works), I'm not sure what else to do. Everything below above Craftsman seems to be locked at the moment. Up until the event, I had all challenges until yellowbrickroad done. I'm actually within 25 blocks of that (woot!). This is definitely an interesting detour...

    That sounds better than I could hope for. I just logged in, but no apparent change ... wondering if maybe I need to try again after server restart (when data presumably gets re-read from disk)?

    Hopefully. Are you able to be online tonight around the time of the restart? I can work with you real time to try and resolve this, since it might require a restart or two.

    I'm sorry I missed this. Unfortunately, no joy after the regular restart. If you don't mind, please definitely keep those restore bits on standby. I'll try to catch up with you during the week and we can coordinate being there at a restart. The weekend may be soon enough - somehow, 2am comes a little later during the week than on the weekend. :D

    You are a wonderful player and my heart went out to you immediately after reading this. I want to help you anyway I can.

    Aw, thanks @dj_H! You're very kind.
    I'm afraid my rather pedantic approach to sky block isn't compatible with anything from off island. In fact, I've got plans for a gift garden to place things that folks have given me - I just can't put them into practical use. I very much appreciate the offer, though. I'm humbled by your trust, and the offer.

    I can replace everything I had pretty quickly. I'm mostly just worried about having permanent corruption in the challenge state data. Fingers crossed we'll get it back. Seriously, it's not like my island up and disappeared while I was within 25 blocks of completing yellowbrickroad. Had that happened, I might have had to borrow @ragequitter9k's handle for a bit
    As it is, once things settle from this, it won't be long before I've blown through the last challenge tier. So all is really quite well.

    Alright, so closing the loop:
    I am all set:

    It turned out that a few random challenges were reset to zero executions. After redoing those, remaining challenges seemed to unlock and work ok. For my pains, I did get to repeat some unrepeatable challenges. I think that's OK.

    Balance was reset, but that doesn't matter much.

    Whackenstein (the axe), and MCI (the bow) have been replaced, and all is well.

    Thank you for support, @c0wg0d. I'm sorry, for your sake, the event happened. It is always unwelcome having to spend unplanned time cleaning up from things like this, particularly for a _game_, and when it competes with real life.
