I've heard optifine.net is safe but i tried it a while ago and it was a virus. Does anyone know where to download it for macbook please let me know
The official website is https://optifine.net/downloads , where I downloaded it. Near the top, you'll see Preview Versions in blue. Click on that, then click on Optifine 1.15.2 and the Download button to the right of it. It will bring you to another screen. Do NOT click any of the ads or fake green download buttons. There is a countdown in the top right corner-- when the timer runs out, click I think next or continue or skip. Watch out for ads that pop up close to that. Then it will download. Drag it off to your desktop, and double click it (You may need Java installed to open the file). Click run and then restart your minecraft launcher and it should be in. (I spent about 3 hours how to safely install Optifine, so this should work!) Let me know if you have any problems.
Many modern browsers give you a warning when downloading a Java *.jar file. It is always best to proceed with caution, but I have been downloading various versions of Optifine for years from the site linked above and never had an issue with a virus.
You may have clicked on one of the many fake download buttons... the right one says "skip" in the top right, then brings you to another screen. Then after all the ads load in (so you know where they are and don't click on them), you find the download button in blue in the center of the screen. I also have a free adblocker, so none of the ads show up for me that you could easily get. Hope this helps!
Tip: When you install OptiFine, click the text that says "mirror". This is a direct download and does not require you to visit an ad page.
Also, be careful about all of those fake download buttons like AFK said. If you look close enough, the fake download "buttons" are actually just annoying advertisements meant to trick you. Many of these ads are generic green buttons, and often times you may find multiple ads on one page. Spoiler: General Fake Ad Examples There are many examples on the internet, but I find the "Start Now" one to be extremely common. The blue triangle thing (and sometimes the blue x) on the top right corner are definite signs of an advertisement.
