1.8.9 Has been released...

    ... In the making of 1.9 snapshots. I was wondering if I would be able to use 1.8.9 to Play on sandlot. I have optifine downloaded for 1.8.9,

    You should be able to. All that 1.8.9 has is improvements to Realms.

    The tertiary update numbers are mainly bug fixes and minor changes, unlike the main updates (1.6, 1.7, 1.8, etc.). These small updates will generally be compatible with a server of the same main version, like 1.8.7 will be compatible with 1.8, the same way 1.8.6 would have been.

    Yes, you can use 1.8.9 on The Sandlot. 1.8.8 will continue to work as well.
