One place I like to look when trying to find new land is the map of easy. (which you can find by going to the top of this page and putting your mouse over the three lines and you should find maps) If you look closely you can see where houses are and aren't. Of course someone could have claimed somewhere without a house but you could get a general idea. Or you could try using the warps and then find a place from there. If we are ever in easy at the same time I think there is land near me that is un-claimed you could tp and I could help you scope some place out.
I've been trying to find a place far out, and the safest route is through the warps in the nether. Faster. But go prepared to claim and build a shelter and fight mobs. The /back helped too. Also the Orange block road works, and there are safe houses about every night to help until you get far enough.... Three days out is far. Maybe a little further.
First off, there's tons of land to build on. I think you might be able to build past the Border (not sure??), but even if you couldn't, there's still a lot to see. Check this map, look around for spots that look uninhabited, people don't just claim land for the sake of claiming land. If you see a spot without buildings on it, then there's a good possibility it's clear. http://www.sandlotminecraft.com/index.php?pages/easymap/ Secondly, people in Easy are very welcoming to new players, or people who need help. If you need help finding a clear spot, I'm sure one of the many 'hermit-y' type players who live out in the middle of nowhere would let you teleport to look for new land.
I live right next to the border, and if you attempt to go past it, you get a message saying "you are approaching the border!" and get teleported back to inside the border. Although that was around a month ago, could it have been changed? I haven't been on easy for a while, so i could be mistaken.

Well 1. there is Lots and lots of land in hardcore 2. when that is taken up c0w will expand the map of hardcore. 3. In semi there is no limit.
