snakegirl63, this is an ongoing battle with Minecraft. Here's the scoop:

The Sandlot runs Minecraft with a bunch of add-ons called "Plug-ins". These plug-ins control things like protecting your claims, remembering how much money you have and stopping people from saying bad things. Unfortunately, plug-ins cannot be updated to the newest new version of MC until it comes out and the team that maintains the plug-in can adapt the plug-in to the changes. This can take days to months, and until all our critical plug-ins can support MC version XX.XX.XX, we have to stay on the previous version.

The good news is that we can often uprate things to work with the newer versions, but without the actual items introduced (hence, no parrots in Sandlot yet), to make it easier for players. Otherwise, we uprate The Sandlot whenever possible, but it's a lot of work for our poor c0wg0d!
