The Sandlot went through many changes and updates over the last year.

Can you believe we celebrated our 5th birthday?! I'm so humbled to be a part of this amazing community that @cheracc made into a reality 5 years ago for his nephews. The growth and commitment of our players is astounding, and I look at all of you not as internet strangers, but as my friends that I've grown to cherish over my last 3+ years here as a community member, helper, moderator, and administrator.

In 2016, we finally supported name changes both on the server and on the forums. We also updated our website with a gigantic set of Minecraft smilies, a new post ratings system, a new set of forum trophies to strive for, automatic name syncing with the Lobby in-game, and a new ban appeal process.

We said farewell to the previous Semi-Vanilla Survival map, launching a brand new one with a magnificent Atlantis spawn, built entirely in survival, as well as beautiful and fun spawn...

The forums/website have been updated. I hope you guys like the updates. The changes are outlined below. If you have any questions, feedback, or bug reports, please share them here. Thanks!

The timer for creating new posts has been reduced from 30 seconds to 15.

The Recent Threads section on the homepage sidebar now shows the 7 most recent threads, instead of 3.

You can now add up to 15 people in a conversation.

You can now "Like" messages in conversations.

You can now search your conversations using the search box in the upper right corner. You will only be able to see conversations that you have started or joined in your search results.

Many new trophies have been added, and point totals have been updated. I have changed the trophy ranks to reflect the same structure as our ranks on the Semi-Vanilla Survival server. All servers now support connecting with Minecraft 1.11.2 (the latest version as of this post). This is now the preferred version to use when connecting to and playing on The Sandlot.

Hi guys!

Parkour is open again, and now running Minecraft 1.11!

I also updated the Parkour plugin to the latest version, which the developer claims has been rewritten from the ground up, with new features coming soon!

One of the changes was that the "finish" blocks (the blocks you step on to complete a course) must now be red mushroom blocks instead of stone slabs. With tremendous help from @BellStar03, @bighatscoutguy, and @JackenKracken, we fixed all courses to use these new blocks.

Two minor issues I've noticed are:

1. Emerald blocks seem to boost you a lot more now than they did before. I have submitted a bug report for this, but for now you get to be like Super Mario. Hopefully no courses are ruined by this change, but if they are, let us know and we'll try to fix it up as best we can.
2. The obsidian boost blocks seem to boost you for a lot longer now. Again, hopefully no courses are ruined, but let...

After a lot of brainstorming, some headscratching, a bit of procrastination and loathing, and then a stroke of genius, HungerGames balances have been fixed!

I thought it would be fun to give you guys an inside peek into what it's like to be an administrator, so I'm going to show you how I fixed the balances. There are many different ways this could have been done, and I'm sure some of our more technically savvy players will scoff at my methods, but in the end it worked, so there!

Our HG balances before we allowed name changes were stored in a database in a format like this:

Wow, can you believe The Sandlot has been online for almost 5 years?! That's incredible! I don't know about the rest of you, but ever since I found The Sandlot, I've never wanted to play Minecraft anywhere else! Our community is the best and I am so proud to be a part of it!
