Your worlds won't go away, but you should not load the worlds in 1.7 if you have already upgraded or played on them with 1.8. Unfortunately, there's not a simple way to keep your worlds safe, you just have to remember what version you are on before joining single player worlds.
Yes I had this problem and other people said to play on 1.7.9, will it crash and be like 1.8 or will I be fine to use 1.7.9 Thanks
We can't make any guarantees of course, but I personally use 1.7.10 and do not have any problems or crashes.
New word on the street is to now use 1.8! cheracc has done some fixes this morning that should stop the crashes in the lobby.
